The SEEREN2 project (South East European Research & Education Network 2), the 34-months project that created the next generation of the Southeast European segment of GÉANT2, successfully reached its end in August 2008. Leading-edge technologies and services are now available to the entire Research and Education communities and all scientific sectors of the region.

The round table on research & education networking in Bosnia-Herzegovina will be held on 20 November 2007 in Sarajevo. This high-level event will focus on discussing the issues of research & education networking in Bosnia-Herzegovina and exploring viable options to address them. The meeting will be organized by the GÉANT2 Development Support Activity and the SEEREN2 project.

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the SEEREN2 project and the PORTA OPTICA study. Porta Optica Study is a project co-funded by the European Commission as the Specific Support Activity ,with the ultimate goal of the stimulation and consolidation of initiatives to ensure the successful, dark-fiber based research network deployment in Eastern Europe, the Baltic States and Southern Caucasus regions. The expected cooperation will be in sharing the gained knowledge in the Dark Fibre deployments in the South East European region as well as in participating in other common liaison activities.

A new cross-border dark fibre link has been established between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Belgrade, the capital of Serbia.
